Not what we were sold.

The room we were shown and bought was NOTHING like the room we had to stay in one year later. I told the hospitality manager the place was so rundown it looked like it would go bankrupt soon. I was assured it would not go through bankruptcy. I was told that the owner was so confident in the place he put his own money into the place recently. Turns out it was to pay the staff that went on strike because they did not get paid one week. The place is close to being a dump.

Now that it is closed we don’t know who to pay our annual fee, in case it does reopen we don’t want to lose it all.

I went to Aruba 3 times, and the 3 times I went twice for business and once for my honeymoon. I stood in la cabana, and I enjoyed myself all 3 times that I was there, a little expensive but I loved it... what I didn't like leaving Aruba was'customs'at the airport.

Aruba Revisited

Review by: Dave Krueger
Date: 12 Aug, 2008

We just returned from Aruba, Aug 2-9. This was our second visit to Aruba and will go again. The last time we were at the Holiday Inn SunSpree. The Aruban was much nicer and much cleaner, The beach was the best and just a short walk away with free cabannas and staff to assist your every request. The staff was superb in every aspect. The maid service was outstanding and very prompt to make sure you were totally satisfied. Our suite was a real bargain. We booked week vacation through Omaha Travel and were 100% satisfied. I would recommend this hotel as a first class accommodation only topped by the
friendliness of its staff. I would also me remiss if I did not mention the fun of the Key Largo casino from Noel, Sully and the entire staff, Great food and great times. Also had a great car deal from Optima while we were there, although I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. All the restaurants were first class. Enjoyed the Havanna Show at the Crystal theater, El Gauchos, Texas De Brazille, Argentian grill, Just a great vacation in paradise.

My wife and I stayed at the Aruban for a week we were very happy with our room and everyone was very nice. We did not care for the restaurant at the resort Blue Marlin but they are undergoing major changes. I would recommend this resort to family and friends it a nice place to go with or without children

Stayed 3/4-11/08 - No problems
- door
March 14, 2008

We stayed at La Cabana March 4-11, 2008 and encountered absolutely no problems whatsoever with the room. This was our first trip to Aruba (we are Bluegreen owners) and after reading all the negative comments posted, I wasn't sure what to expect.

Yes, the rooms are small and the furniture is "dated"; however, the facility is undergoing a 3 year complete renovation. (The resort is 20 years old) We toured one of the renovated rooms and it was gorgeous. Whoever reconfigured how to fit the same amount of furniture and fixtures in each room is to be commended. The new rooms have the same amount of space as the old rooms but they look so much bigger. The new studio is almost the same as an old one bedroom.

The grounds and pool area were spectacular as was the beach area. Loved watching the iguanas in the pool area and in the palm trees.

The only negative comments would be - (1) the pool and ocean water was freezing (and I do mean freezing). (2) Too many timeshare invitations were offered. Everywhere we went, we encountered at least one person offering us an invitation to tour a timeshare somewhere on the island. It really became annoying.

This was our first trip to the island, but won't be our last. We plan to return after the renovations to La Cabana are complete.

THE NOISE IS AWFUL
- door
January 01, 2008

I am currently staying at La Cabana -- and can't wait to get home so that I can get some sleep! From our bedroom we can hear conversations in the next units and down the walkway that leads to the units as though we were part of those conversations. Getting to sleep is a nightmare. Partiers wander about in a drunken state in the middle of night, singing and shouting. It's awful.

The units themselves are not very impressive. Everything seems old and a bit musty. I will not be returning to La Cabana.

The pool area, however, is really nice. The pool itself is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. The beach is right across the street and is the most beautiful beach I've ever been on.

Would Not Go Again
- door
December 16, 2007

I would not stay at or recommend the Aruban at all.

The room was visibly moldy. There were stains on the couch. The refrigerator was rusty and leaking water onto the tile floor. There was a dead bug in the bed. The towels, even when replaced, smelled like they had been left wet in the dryer for too long. There was lipstick on one of the glasses(first day, first attempt to use the glasses, thus not mine). The mirrored closet door did not open and close correctly. The garbage disposal did not work. The key for the room safe became stuck and most of our paper possessions warped after the maid had left the door open while cleaning and let condensation form over everything over the room while we were out (signs in the room clearly state that windows and doors should not be cracked open or mold will form). The handle to one of the drawers of the chest was broken. The drawers of this chest also had some kind of insect dung inside it. Walking on the floors stained my socks a dark brown color within 2 hours. The wireless internet connection was very poor from within the room. The sheets for the bed were stained (various different stains ranging from tiny black dots -pen marks? to yellow blobs) and one of them had a hole in it. Water pressure to the shower was very, very weak.

Similar complaints were made by other guests who participated in the same vacation package. It was a very unpleasant stay.

La Cabana Villas Going Down
- door
August 30, 2007

This is going to be a very honest review, I harbor no ill feelings with the resort, but I will probably not be staying here again in the future. This is going to be a long one, but if you want an honest review read on.

For those of you who have stayed at La Cabana before and are planning to return, prepare yourself for the two sides of the resort. The Villas "which they are not villas" are for the vacationers, and the remainder of the resort is geared for the Time Shares. Vacationers are not allowed to use the warmer pools on the Time Share side period. They control this by the color of the towels. Solid Green is Time Share, Green and white stripped is vacationers. The key is to bring your own towels. All of the entertainment is on the time share side as well, in addition to the late night bar. The bar on the Villas side closes at 9:00 "not that I drink anyway".

I have stayed at the La Cabana several times. I enjoyed the seclusion from the Hi Rise hotels. And to be very honest Eagle Beach is the nicest beach on the island.

This trip was for my honeymoon and to be very honest in my opinion the resort has slipped a great deal since last year. It is now August 20, 2007, and I am writing this from my terrace. For starters, all I have been hearing about is the "special offer" for $200 to listen to the time share story... It has gotten so bad, that they are now calling the room every day because they want to give you $200 to use at the 50 machine casino. I visited the casino with my bride, and we walked out. It was essentially a bar with some slot machines. The Royal Cabana casino closed down because the owner of it was skimming off the top. But enough of this. I am not a time share person simply because I like to travel when I want, not when the time share permits me to.

Lets talk about cleanliness. All of the tables pool side were covered in bird droppings, which is fine if someone actually goes around cleaning them, but they do not. Plus the drunks leave a wealth of garbage around during the overnight for the stray cats to enjoy.

The rooms are tired, stained, worn down, sticky floored, and smell of mildew "for the love of god bring fabreeze and spray it directly into the air conditioning intake, and on all the furniture" I have some great pictures of the furniture if anyone wants to see what the really look like verses the promo pictures. I guess a lot has transpired since my visit a year ago, or as one of the hotel staff I befriended said "they upgraded the time share rooms, and moved old furniture into the vacation rooms"

for the first time this week security has been stepped up. someone stole the towel "$25 if you lose one" of a child. The mother was tearing into security because the resort is supposed to be family oriented. She managed to get a free towel, but was clearly concerned. When the Resort Manager blew her off, she asked him point blank if he had children. After floundering a bit he said "no" she exclaimed "then you don't know what I am feeling do you".
Of course that made him back down, and supply the woman with a replacement towel. because of this incident, Security is every where now, which is quite funny because I never saw security walking around the grounds before.

So here is my advice... Aruba is a great island. Please research you trips carefully, and remember all inclusive is great if you are a drinker, but Aruba has a wealth of fantastic restaurants and clubs which are reasonably priced. You will save a ton of money if you are like me and my wife and do not drink booking non inclusive packages.

Regards... Bob

Great value

July 11, 2007

Stayed with my family in back side building next to top floor--beautiful view--, pools and slides were clean and well chlorinated, staff polite, beach out front beautiful, rooms were clean and everything [while dated] worked well, poolside happy hours were great value and fun time, poolside bands were great[even if you don't speak spanish] we rented car for the week and drove all over island--at least twice, we bought groceries and ate in room, only ate at La Cabannas pool side sandwich shop--good food-- and ate supper at a different restaurants around island for all 6 nights --we did not have a bad meal all week around Aruba
Yes I would go back to La Cabanna, its a little worn, but clean, appears safe for teenage kids to roam the grounds a bit and "an excellent value for what you get"
I do not understand the negative comments unless they thought they were renting a 5 star resort at 50% off price??
